SILLENO - A MAJOR POLYETHYLENE PRODUCTION PROJECT IN KAZAKHSTAN

 

Silleno LLP is the operator of a polyethylene production project in the Atyrau Region. The project is being implemented in the Karabatan industrial zone within the National Industrial Petrochemical Technopark Special Economic Zone in the Atyrau Region.

The main objective of building the polyethylene plant in Kazakhstan is to reduce dependence on imports and develop domestic production, contributing to economic growth, job creation and increased export potential.

The plant’s output will account for approximately 1% of global polyethylene production. In terms of scale and technological capabilities, the new plant will be one of the largest facilities of its kind in the world.

Production capacity: 1,250,000 tonnes of polyethylene per year.

Feedstock: approximately 1.6 million tonnes of ethane per year.

Commissioning: 2029.

Employment: approximately 15,000 temporary jobs during the construction phase and more than 1,000 permanent jobs during operation.

The project is being implemented in line with the instructions of the Head of State, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, to develop a petrochemical industry cluster in the country’s western region. It will become the largest manufacturing industry project in Kazakhstan.

The planned product range includes 15 to 24 grades of polyethylene, including high-density polyethylene (HDPE) and linear low-density polyethylene (LLDPE). Premium-grade products will account for 40% of total output.
